RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic remodelling surgery. In this operation, the nose is aesthetically shaped and the breathing problems of my patient are eliminated.

Rhinoplasty ideal nose: is a natural nose compatible with the facial structure of the individual that does not show the aesthetic intervention or cause breathing problems. Rhinoplasty can be performed in two ways: open technique and closed technique.

RHINOPLASTY WITH CLOSED TECHNIQUE
all incisions are made intranasally in closed technique. In this technique, surgery takes shorter time than the open technique. Since the vein nerve bundle at the nasal tip is not cut, the wound healing is faster and the nasal tip elasticity is better than the open technique. However, the field of view is more limited than the open technique. Especially, remodelling of the nose and correction of curved noses are more difficult than the open technique. Therefore, revision rates are higher compared to the open technique.

RHINOPLASTY WITH OPEN TECHNIQUE
In the open technique, the tip of the nose is opened by making an incision of about 3 mm. In open technique, it is possible to control the nose- especially the nose tip- easier, compared to the closed technique. The nose tip is shaped easier and more firmly. Again, the cartilage structure of the back of the nose is repaired better and the nose with distinct curvature can be corrected better.
In summary, open technique provides more rigorous, robust and comfortable work. However, the operation time and recovery time are longer than the closed technique.
The choice between the two techniques depends on the surgeon’s experience with these techniques and his ability to operate. The surgeon will get the best result with the method he knows the best. I make a choice between open or closed technique according to the patient’s nose structure. I apply the technique which I believe would reveal the best results

PRE-OPERATION PROCESS IN RHINOPLASTY
Before the operation, a detailed ear nose throat examination is performed after the patient’s complaints and requests are heard. In this examination, the patient’s nose is evaluated both aesthetically and in terms of breathing problem. Afterwards, the patient’s photographs are taken and a detailed facial analysis is performed.
Corrections that will be applied to the nose during surgery are shown to the patient in three-dimensional simulation program. The patient shares his/her wishes with the doctor. Thus, the patient can see how the nose will look after the surgery. The doctor will understand wishes of the patient about the nose job.
Information is provided to the patient about surgical procedure to be applied, anaesthesia, hospital where the surgery will be performed, preparations before the surgery, potential risks of surgery and complications during this meeting.

OPERATION PROCESS IN RHINOPLASTY
Nose remodelling is performed under general anaesthesia. Duration of the surgery varies between 1 and 3 hours. Nose operations aimed at revision can take longer. This duration extends when pre-operation preparations and anaesthesia, waking up the patient after operation and keeping the patient under observation until the patient is conscious are taken into consideration. Doctor should inform relatives of patients about this process in order to ensure they do not have concerns. The patient is discharged on the same day or the next day depending on the situation.

POST-OPERATION PROCESS IN RHINOPLASTY
The patient should lie on his back on a high pillow and avoid turning head too far to the left and right. A discharge from the nostrils mixed with small amount of blood and a feeling of fullness in the nose can be observed after the surgery.
Puffiness in the eye and rarely, slight bruises may be observed around the eyes after the surgery. This bruise and puffiness reach to peak level on the second and the third day. Applying ice compression on the forehead and under the eyes would reduce the swelling. The swelling and bruises disappear within one week. Silicon tampons are removed 48-72 hours later and plastic splint on the back of the nose is removed one week later. Sutures are not removed as bioabsorbable sutures are used. Patient can consume fluids 3-4 hours after the surgery and resume normal diet in the following days.
Patient should be careful when brushing teeth, wearing clothes in order to avoid damaging the nose. The patient can return to normal routine of living one week later. Activities requiring excessive effort should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
Patient should protect nose form impacts for 2 months and glasses should not be worn. Contact lenses can be used two days after the surgery. Patient can wash face without soaking the bandage and wash hair using the method of washing hair dressers apply.
Laughing and exaggerated gestures should be avoided for one week. Tight clothes should be avoided for a few weeks, the face should be protected from sun and solar rays for 1.5-2 months and a sun screen with high protection should be used. Smoking should be avoided or reduced for 1-2 months after the surgery; and patient should stay away from swimming pools, sauna and solarium for two months. Patient can swim in the sea 2 weeks after the surgery.
You should use only the medicines prescribed by the doctor and check-up examination should be performed on the 1st, 3rd and 6th months unless otherwise required.
